FLIGHTS

Fly over East Gippsland and Goolengook -too far to drive ?

In 2002 - MPs flew over Goolengook leaving on a Saturday and returning Monday morning.

Carlos Carli and Glenys Romanos, , accepted an invitation by Environment Victoria to see for themselves the old growth forests the Bracks Government is clearfelling.

Andrew Picone, author of the Goolengook National Park Proposal, guided an on the ground tour of the forest. The group, flew from Melbourne over the Errinundra Plateau and Goolengook in a plane donated for the occasion and piloted by Alan Austin. The MPs stayed in cabins at Cape Conran and on Sunday were taken to Brown Mountain with Jill Redwood. There they saw the ancient eucalypt forest compared with a thinnings coupe on the Errinundra Road. The trip originated out of a public meeting in Brunswick earlier in 2002, at which Carlo Carli presented the Government’s position on the logging of Goolengook.
