Who are Teachers for Forests? |
History May 12, 2002 The "Teachers for Forests" website has been set-up by teachers who in their (spare?) time have been orienting themselves to the forest debate. We recently spent some time in the beautiful Rainforests of East Gippsland at the 'Forests Forever' Easter Camp (which has been running for 20 years) Guided Tours with Victoria's Rare Plant and Forest experts were undertaken every day, with slide shows at night under the stars to give us the background we needed for gaining a perspective on what forest types and how much, needs to be saved. The history of the nearby Errinundra Plateau and 'Goolengook' forest systems, and new developments in ecosystem classification such as the finding of 'Dry' Rainforest pockets on the Mitchell River (containing species of Brachychiton normally found on the western plains of NSW). The Geological and Palentological history of why these ecosystems and communities formed was also intriguing.
