Ocean Forests

Like huge fingers that disappear into the depths of the sea, the Giant Kelp Forests found in the waters off Tasmania and Victoria, are the rainforests of the sea.

Great Victorian Fish Count

Victorian divers are once again preparing to explore kelp forests, seagrass meadows and sponge gardens as part of the Great Victorian Fish Count. The annual census of reef fish, which begins December 1 and runs until December 16, is being co-ordinated by Reef Watch Victoria, which encourages divers to monitor and care for marine life.

From Cape Conran to Portland, in and out of marine national parks and sanctuaries, 25 species will be surveyed including Blue Gropers, Morwongs, Leatherjackets, Wrasse and Victoria’s marine emblem, the Weedy Seadragon.
